Atomic City ist eine internationale Koproduktion der Theatergruppe Terra Nova (Kopenhagen) und Jon Morris (New York) mit Künstlern aus Dänemark, Deutschland, Schweden, Guatemala und den USA. Das Stück wurde im Juni 2008 im Rahmen einer Residenz in Robert Wilsons Watermill Center auf Long Island entwickelt und im September im La MaMa E.T.C. in New York zur Premiere gebracht.

Das Bühnenbild von Christian Wassman, bestehend aus verfahrbaren Wänden aus Tyvek, einem papierartigen Material, sowie die flexiblen Raumelementen von Molo Design boten eine ideale Fläche für das Lichtdesign - Insbesondere für den Einsatz von Farbe und dem Spiel mit Licht und Schatten. Dass das Publikum von zwei Seiten auf die Bühne blickte, stellte hierbei eine beleuchtungstechnische Herausforderung dar.

"Atomic City is always at its best when it sticks to its core vocabulary of striking visuals, which abound throughout. The dancer/actors possess a wonderful synergy and a knack for creating striking stage pictures, either on their own or with the aid of a few well-chosen props (most notably a couple of long flexible "paper walls" that are manipulated throughout). Christian Wassmann's simple set creates a perfect platform for the action that is both evocative and flexible, and Felix Grimm's lighting always works in harmonious service to the imagery.
